Forty-eight private colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) and 11 public COMs reported data for the 2023-24 Cost of Attendance (COA) Report.  Eight COMs have reported a decrease in COA, including seven private COMs and one public COM since the 2022-23 academic year while three COMs reported having the same COA for both academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24, including two private COMs and one public COM.  Thirteen COMs reported a decrease in average graduate indebtedness since academic year 2022-23, including 12 private COMs and one public COM; seven COMs reported having the same graduate indebtedness for both academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24, including five private COMs and two public COMs. 

The total average cost of attendance for private COMs is $371,403 which is a difference of $18,828 or an increase of 5.3 percent since the 2022-23 COA Report; the average cost of attendance for private COMs is $92,851 which is a difference of $4,707 or an increase or 5.3 percent.  The total average cost of attendance for public COMs is $297,881 which is a difference of $10,547 or an increase of 3.7 percent since the 2022-23 COA Report; the average cost of attendance is $74,470 which is a difference of $2,637 or an increase of 3.7 percent since the 2022-23 COA Report.  The total average cost of attendance for both private and public COMs is $357,120 which is a difference of $14,091 or an increase of 4.1 percent since the 2022-23 COA Report; the average cost of attendance for both public and private COMs is $89,280 which is a difference of $3,523 or an increase of 4.1 percent since the 2022-23 COA Report.

The difference in total average cost of attendance between private and public COMs is $73,522 or 22.0 percent which is a difference of $8,280 or an increase of 12.7 percent since the 2022-23 COA Report; the difference in average cost of attendance between private and public COMs is $18,381 or 22.0 percent which is a difference of $2,071 or an increase of 12.7 percent since the 2022-23 COA Report.
